The renovation of our Cambridge Historic District project located in the historic section of West Cambridge, transformed the beloved home into a functional family residence. Previously owned by a single family for many decades, the house had not undergone any updates for over 50 years, retaining features such as a Bunsen burner stove in the kitchen and only bathtubs throughout.
One of the major changes made during the renovation was the addition of a custom cooks kitchen. This new kitchen was designed to cater to the needs of the family, with modern appliances and a functional layout. The first floor of the house was also reconfigured to improve the flow for entertaining purposes, accommodating activities like family movie nights and communal homework sessions at the spacious kitchen island.
The family room received a significant upgrade, featuring new floor-to-ceiling windows that allow ample natural light into the space. Additionally, a fireplace was installed to replace the previous screened-in porch, which had terracotta flooring and even housed a frog pond. This transformation created a cozy and inviting atmosphere in the family room.
To enhance outdoor entertaining opportunities, an exterior fireplace was added to the property. It was accompanied by a trellis covered in wisteria and Philippe Stark Ghost chairs, providing a beautiful and serene ambiance for the family and their guests.
This project renovations and additions successfully blended modern elements with the historic charm of the house and surrounding area - creating a comfortable, functional and happy family home for generations to come.
